Full Guide

  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces with a knife. Make sure the pieces are as fine as possible. This will make it easier to melt later on.

  2. Temper your chocolate either using a microwave or a double boiler. We'll explain how to do it in a microwave, but if you want to get the best quality tempered chocolate, take a look at our guide, How to Temper Chocolate, where we explain how to use the double boiler method.

Place the chocolate pieces in a bowl and heating it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate with a spatula, moving the chocolate from the edges to the center to evenly heat it.

Place the chocolate back into the microwave and heat for 15 seconds and stir like we did in the first step. Take the temp of your chocolate to make sure it’s not above 90ºF.

Repeat this process 2-5 more times until the chocolate is almost melted. Never heat more than 15 seconds and do not let your chocolate get above 90ºF. Once almost melted, just continue stirring until the chocolate is fully melted from the residual heat from the bowl.

    Double Boiler Method

  3. Pour the chocolate into your molds. Silicone molds come with indicators etched in them to indicate how much chocolate should be poured in the mold. Pour until they reach this etch

If your mold lacks an etch, or you simply can't find it, a good rule of thumb is to fill the mold three quarters of the way.

Use the second part of your three-part mold to press the chocolate against the mold, applying pressure with your fingers to ensure the entire mold is filled

  4. Place the chocolate mold in the fridge for 5 minutes. Check to see if the chocolate is hardened. If it is not, place it back in the fridge for another 5 to 10 minutes. Chilling the mold helps the chocolate set faster and creates a smoother surface for your candies.

  5. Carefully remove the chocolate spheres from their molds. Take your time with this, as you don't want to damage the delicate chocolate. Once they're all removed, set them aside on a plate or tray.

  6. Fill half of the molds with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

  7. Seal the two pieces of chocolate together. This can be done by piping some melted chocolate onto the top sphere and using it like glue.

Alternatively, you can heat the top half on a stove for a few seconds and then stick it onto the bottom half of the bomb.

  8. Finally, you can decorate the seam with sprinkles! Sprinkles are the perfect way to decorate any seams. With a variety of colors and shapes, they can really add personality to any project. Plus, they're super easy to use - just sprinkle them on and enjoy!

Conclusion

Hot Cocoa Bombs are a great way to get your chocolate fix in a fun and easy way. You can make them ahead of time and keep them in the fridge or freezer for when the mood strikes you. Simply take them out and let them defrost for about 15 minutes before enjoying.
